Starting the Rumor Mill… Under the Sea

Lucas Signed To Helm “20K The Special Edition”

If time and the entertainment industry have taught us anything, it is that Disney and George Lucas have two things in common, they like to ‘plus’ things.

Recent Disney examples include refurbishments and additions to attractions such as Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion.

George Lucas, who only decade ago revamped his original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy, is said to be considering taking them yet another step further, by presenting the films in 3D.

Word on the Disney rumor mill was that Lucas Arts next project was to have been
“Star Tours II – Revenge of R2”
Not so says Lucas “there are no plans to change Star Tours at this time”

Inside sources however, have confirmed that Disney and Lucas Arts have signed a multimillion dollar agreement to reproduce, digitally enhance, and merge Disney’s classic ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ with elements from the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ franchise.

“This project will feature a new process that did not exist until we developed it” states George Lucas. “We have created a digital lifting technique which allows us to remove all the principle actors from the original versions of these films. The process clones the surrounding area that the actor was removed from and automatically fills in the empty space. We can then go back and digitally insert a new cast of actors into these feature films. Not every character will be replaced, Esmeralda the Sea Lion will remain, as well as Mr. Cotton’s parrot.”

In an early unfinished scene the Kraken attacks the Nautilus while Mr. Cotton’s parrot appears to be flying frightfully around tentacles on the subs deck in a vertical position without the use of wings. “It’s still in the early stages” explains Lucas “But the finished scene will be amazing.”

The film, due to be released next year will be entitled “20K The Special Edition”
Early casting rumors include Sean Connery as Captain Nemo, Michael Caine as Professor Arronax, Harrison Ford as Ned Land, and Jack Black as Conseil.

Actors Steve Buscemi and Nicholas Cage are said to be in negotiations for the parts of Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbosa respectively.

Ok, Pirates fans before you get all work up about Buscemi and Cage consider this parting quote from Mr. Lucas. “Nothing is final regarding the Pirates content of this film. The franchise is still so fresh in the eyes of the movie going public that changing these characters might not be the wisest move. Even Mr. Cotton might stay.”

Still, I think it would be interesting to see Steve Buscemi’s take on Captain Jack or even Ragetti.

  • Lol. The Hidden Mickey was a nice touch.

  • Jules Verne week is great! I just got done catching up. I hope it finishes just as good. Does Jules have an opinion as to the Nemo Sub ride taking over 20k?

And I went back and found the hidden mickey. Cool bonus!

  • The Hidden Mickey seems to be unproportionate in size. But LOVING the idea of Sean Connery in the movie!
